Exergy Flow Charts
GCEP is undertaking an effort to collect data and map the exergy destruction and the associated carbon cycle of the natural and anthropogenic energy systems at a global level. Exergy is the useful portion of energy that allows us to do work and perform energy services. This effort is intended to illustrate the complexity, interconnectedness, and efficiency of our global energy system and its relationship to the global carbon cycle.
The following products have been developed so far in this activity:
Understanding this system can offer scientists the opportunity to identify potential research opportunities for improving the efficiency of energy conversion processes while also reducing emissions of carbon dioxide. In addition, the maps can serve an educational role for the general public interested in learning not just about our energy resources, but also about the processes used in their transformation to energy services and how those transformations contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
