Stanford, California—May 25, 2005—The Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP) will hold its first energy research symposium June 13-16 at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center. The four-day event will feature leading energy researchers from Stanford and around the world discussing the technologies needed for a future with significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

"This is the first opportunity provided by the project for GCEP researchers to showcase their results to a general audience," said GCEP Project Director Franklin M. Orr Jr. "We anticipate an interesting and informative set of presentations and posters by GCEP principal investigators, graduate students and research staff. We also have invited distinguished keynote and outside speakers to help promote thoughtful and lively discussions on possible technical pathways to an energy future with low greenhouse gas emissions."

Keynote speakers include Freeman Dyson, professor emeritus of physics at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (Monday); Ernest Moniz, professor of physics and engineering systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Tuesday); and R. K. Pachauri, director-general of the Energy and Resources Institute and chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (Wednesday).

Each day of the symposium will focus on a specific topic: geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide (Monday), advanced combustion (Tuesday), hydrogen and other renewable energy (Wednesday), assessments of future directions and recently awarded GCEP research projects (Thursday).
